Claire started riding aged 2, sitting on her father's hack, and later took lessons at a local riding school. At 8 she had her own pony, a 3-year old and just-broken Welsh Mountain. There were lots of spills but also thrills, when they went on to take 6th place at Henley Show.

Claire first joined Wokingham Pony Club and appeared in their mounted games Prince Philip Cup Team. She then changed to Staff College and Sandhurst Branch representing them in all teams. Attending their camps at Tweseldown she then went on to teach for her Branch and became their Chief Instructor.

At 16 Claire left school to train as a working pupil with Pat Manning FBHS. In quick succession she passed her BHSAI at 17, Pony Club H Test at 18, BHSIT at 19, Pony Club A Test at 20, BHSSM at 22 and her BHSI at the earliest age of 23.

Pursuing her show jumping career, she also during this time spent 6 months working for the world famous Irish show jumping trainer, Iris Kellett. Claire has jumped many ponies up to junior Foxhunter. She helped her father break 3-year olds coming from Ireland, bringing them on through Newcomers and Foxhunter, jumping up to BSJA Grade B-Opens.

Upon her return from Ireland Claire rode the show hack Glenfield Whispering Grace for Trevor Armstrong of the Glenfield Stud; she also rode hunters, riding horses and hacks, showing side saddle at the Horse of the Year Show, Wembley.

Always having had a good knowledge of correct flat work, through her friends Nicky and Richard Barrett, Claire started to get into Dressage. She bought the ex-show jumper D'Marco, who hadn't previously been into the Arena, successfully training him to Prix St Georges, being placed 5th at Hickstead in the Advanced Medium Class and being placed and winning DSG. She started competing horses for clients, qualifying for Championships, etc, making a name for herself as a rider.

Claire trained with Nicky Barratt and Peter Storr during this time and (once she had moved to Dorset starting her own facility) also with Michael Beining, who came from Germany to give dressage clinics for 3 years. She regularly travels there herself to watch training and Claire has brought horses over from Germany, competing in Young Horse classes. She came 11th at Badminton Young Dressage horse Championships and qualified for the Sheerwater Finals. Now with a new horse she is planning to do Advanced Medium and PSG classes in 2008.
